Surah Al-Mulk holds a significant place in Islam. It is the 67th chapter of the Qur’an and consists of 30 verses. This Surah was revealed in Makkah and is also known by other names such as “The Sovereignty” and “The Dominion.”

In Surah Al-Mulk, Allah emphasizes strengthening the faith of the believers, warns of punishment for the disbelievers, and promises forgiveness and reward for those who believe.

In this article, we will discuss in detail the virtues and benefits of reciting Surah Al-Mulk, supported by authentic Hadith.

Virtues and Benefits of Reciting Surah Al-Mulk

There are many benefits of reciting Surah Al-Mulk, which have been mentioned in several authentic Hadith.

1. Forgiveness of Sins

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

There is a Surah in the Qur’an of thirty verses that intercedes for a man until he is forgiven. It is the Surah تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ (Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion).

(Sunan Abu Dawood, 1400; Tirmidhi, 2891 – Hasan)

This Hadith makes it clear that Surah Al-Mulk is a means of forgiveness for the sins of the believers. It intercedes on behalf of the one who recites it regularly and continues to plead for mercy until Allah forgives him.

2. Protection from the Torment of the Grave

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud narrated that the Prophet said,

“Whoever recites Surah Al-Mulk every night, Allah will protect him from the torment of the grave.”

(Sunan an-Nasa’i, 6/179)

During the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Surah Al-Mulk was also referred to as Al-Mani’ah, meaning “the Protector.” This title itself highlights its great virtue, as it is the Surah that saves the believer from the punishment of the grave.

Those who recite this Surah will be granted Allah’s protection in the grave, and they will be shielded from its torment. Regular recitation of Surah Al-Mulk thus serves as a source of safety, mercy, and intercession for the believer.

3. Surah Al-Mulk as a Gateway to Paradise

Imam Ahmad recorded that the Prophet ﷺ said:

There is a chapter of the Qur’an that will argue on behalf of its reciter until it causes him to enter into Paradise.

(al-Mu’jam al-Awsaṭ lil-Ṭabarānī 3654)

This clearly proves that those who regularly recite Surah Al-Mulk will be admitted into Paradise by the mercy of Allah. On the Day of Judgment, this Surah will intercede on behalf of its reciter, continuously pleading until Allah grants forgiveness and entry into Jannah.

Best time to Recite Surah Al-Mulk

The best time to recite Surah Al-Mulk is at night, before going to sleep. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself used to recite this Surah before sleeping, which shows its great importance and virtue.

Reciting Surah Al-Mulk at night not only brings peace and tranquility to the heart, but it also becomes a means of protection from the punishment of the grave and a source of forgiveness for sins. Furthermore, whoever recites this Surah before sleeping, Allah ﷻ grants him protection throughout the entire night.
