During the time of Prophet Musa عليه السلام, a man from the Bani Israel (the Children of Israel) was mysteriously murdered. To uncover the truth, Allah commanded Prophet Musa (A.S) to instruct his people to sacrifice a cow.
However, instead of showing obedience, the people of Bani Israel mocked Prophet Musa (A.S). They began asking unnecessary and mocking questions, such as what color, age, and type of cow should be sacrificed. Their continuous questioning reflected their lack of submission and sincerity toward Allah’s command.
Finally, when they fulfilled the command and sacrificed the cow, Allah instructed them to strike the body of the murdered man with a piece of the cow. By the will of Allah, the dead man came back to life and revealed the name of his murderer. This miraculous event was a clear sign of Allah’s absolute power, authority, and wisdom.
When Allah gives a command, there is no room for argument or doubt. A true believer should obey Allah wholeheartedly rather than question His orders. Obedience brings guidance, while unnecessary questioning can lead one toward disbelief and disobedience.
Number of Verses in Surah Al-Baqarah
Surah Al-Baqarah is the longest and most comprehensive Surah in the Holy Quran. It contains a total of 286 verses (ayat). This Surah extends across the first three Juz (parts) of the Quran and includes 40 Rukus (sections).

1. Protection from Satan

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
“Do not make your houses as graveyards. Satan runs away from the house in which Surah Baqarah is recited.”

2. Protection Through Surah Al-Baqarah
Reciting Surah Al-Baqarah not only brings peace and blessings but also serves as a strong protection against all kinds of magic (sihr), evil influences, and harmful effects caused by them. It shields a person and their home from every form of spiritual and unseen danger.
Abu Umama said he heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) say:
“Recite Surah Al-Baqarah, for taking recourse to it is a blessing, abandoning it is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it.”

3. Intercession on the Day of Judgment
On the Day of Judgment (Yawm al-Qiyamah), Surah Al-Baqarah will intercede on behalf of those who used to recite it regularly. On that fearful Day, but will also plead in favor of its reciter, seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for them.
“Recite the two bright Surahs, Al-Baqarah and Aal-e-Imran, for they will come on the Day of Resurrection as two clouds, or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recited them.”
